Commissions accepted, please contact me. I have been painting since the year 2000.
I am a board member of the Draper Visual Arts Foundation in Draper, Utah.
The image I painted of the Grand Tetons was on a fourth of July morning. I arose
early and go to my viewing spot at about 6:00am when the sun was just coming up. As the sunlight started to hit
the tops of the mountains, I took some shots with my camera which provided the inspiration for the painting. Many of the
paintings I have completed over the years were the result of trips to the beach or mountains. However,
some of my paintings rely on other sources for inspiration.
Besides oil painting, I have had the privilege to also illustrate many things over the years.
In the early 2000's, I was fortunate enough to illustrate a children's book written by Sherilyn
Knudsen titled "The Smart Way To Be". This book contains 18 full-spread illustrations that were done
in Prisma color pencil on paper. The project took about a year and utilized local kids as models.
When it was published, we had a party and most all of the kids that were featured in the book came.
It was an amazing event.
I was trained as an illustrator by attending the design department of Brigham Young University. I studied under
Robert Barrett and Richard Hull. After graduating, I worked for many years as a freelance illustrator before
ultimately turning to painting landscapes in oil. I started by airbrushing acrylics onto cold-pressed board,
But when Adobe Illustrator and Aldus Freehand came along, I quickly put down my paints and went digital.

I’ve always admired the depth and intention behind the work shown at the Gale Center exhibit.
Michael Bodily’s pieces felt both powerful and thoughtful, with a style that draws you in and makes you pause.
There’s a strong sense of perspective and emotion throughout, and the presentation was beautifully done.
It left a lasting impression. — Kaisha Fox
I’ve seen Michael Bodily’s exhibits on two occasions and have a canvas reproduction of his Monument Valley
painting in my home. His work is truly inspiring. I feel that he was able to bring to life the
essence of that valley in a profound way. My wife is an artist as well and we have quite a collection of art in our home.
I am grateful that we have acquired this piece as it adds beauty and elegance to our gallery. - Gary Abbott
Michael Bodily’s art is amazing. It carries you to the powerful waves on the beach or into a serene mountain wilderness.
The landscapes surround you with the power and peace of nature. — Nanci Shumpert
